Nikolay Tzonev, co-founder, on how children can master new technologies
Rapid technological development has defined our times; in this environment the importance of digital literacy and programming for children can hardly be overestimated. It gives them the skills to find their way in the digital world and prepares them for the technological future. The international chain of schools Logiscool aims to help by teaching children how to programme easily, effectively and age appropriately. Since 2021, it has taught artificial intelligence as well. Nikolay Tzonev, co-founder of Logiscool Bulgaria, shares more.
Why, according to Logiscool, should children know what AI is?
The world is changing and in the next decades it will be crucial for us to learn how to live and cooperate with artificial intelligence. AI has already revolutionised many fields in our lives – thousands of programmes and online platforms are powered by it, such as Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant, YouTube, Netflix and Spotify. This is why it is important for us to understand it, particularly children who are going to share their future with it and need to be digitally literate, capable of logical and critical thinking, and knowing how to program AI. The state education cannot deal with this challenge. This is why children attend outschool IT lessons.
How do you introduce Logiscool students to this field?
Modern children grow up with digital devices in their hands. The goal of Logiscool is to help them become critical thinkers who use technologies in an aware and beneficial way. This is why we offer programming and digital literacy skills to students aged 6-18 years based on our world class certified curriculum.
In line with the latest educational criteria, our education is based on experience and modules. It actively involves the children and allows them to learn in a way suitable for their age and level of knowledge.
The Logiscool courses, camps and seminars teach not only how AI works, but also how to use it. The topics in the curriculum include generation of text, text images and voice text, drawing, faces and movement recognition, music production, building models for machine learning, models, recommendation systems and learning models, data visualisation and creating a chat bot.
They teach the foundations of controlled and uncontrolled (machine) learning, numerical models and kNN algorithms with the help of online software. Students programme intelligent algorithms with our own programme platform that makes code easy to understand. Students have the chance to programme and apply algorithms for machine learning with Python.
At the same time, we stress on responsible and ethical use of technologies.
It does not matter what technologies will appear in the future. Logiscool is here to help the following generations to be successful in the digital future.
