YOUR SKIN DOESN'T NEED ANOTHER PRODUCT. IT NEEDS A STRATEGY

Dr Elizabet Naydenova on the myths surrounding skincare trends

Dr Elizabet Naydenova is a specialist in clinical and aesthetic dermatology with professional interests in regenerative medicine, trichology and advanced aesthetic treatments. She has furthered her qualifications through specialised training in France, Italy and Spain and is a certified trainer for a leading French aesthetic medicine brand. In her practice, she follows the philosophy that healthy skin is the foundation of beauty and that good aesthetic medicine does not change individuality but enhances it in a natural way.

What does a truly individual approach to dermatology mean to you?

For me, it begins with one simple question: what does this person's skin actually need? Not what is trending, not what someone else is using, and not which ingredient happens to be everywhere on social media right now.

Skin is dynamic. It changes with the seasons, stress, hormonal fluctuations, our lifestyle, and even the skincare we are already using. This is why two people with seemingly identical concerns may require completely different approaches.

This inspired me to create SkinGlow – a personalised home skincare programme designed to replace the often chaotic cycle of buying and trying new products with a clear and consistent strategy: what to use, why we are using it, and when it makes sense to adjust the routine.

So, should we stop following skincare trends?

We should be aware of them, but we should not follow them blindly. Today, an active ingredient can become a skincare "essential" almost overnight. The result is often an overloaded routine, irritated skin, and the feeling that the solution must always lie in the next product.

Sometimes, however, the best solution is exactly the opposite – removing something.

Good skincare is not a collection of trending products. It is a system tailored to the condition of the skin and adjusted over time.

What are the three most important rules for healthy, beautiful skin?

Simplicity, consistency, and prevention.

A skincare routine does not need to be complicated to be effective. What matters far more is choosing the right products, using them consistently for long enough, and protecting the skin from the sun every day.

Nor should we expect our skin to change in three days. Beautiful skin is rarely the result of one new product. More often, it is the result of a series of small, positive habits repeated consistently over time.

This is a principle I believe in both as a doctor and a group fitness instructor. Sustainable results do not come from extremes or short bursts of effort. They come from consistency, the right approach, and learning to listen to our own bodies.

The best skincare strategy is not the one that follows trends. It is the one that follows your skin.
