RUSKOVETS RESORT: IN THE EMBRACE OF MINERAL WATER

A memorable combination of spa indulgence and the tranquillity of the mountains

Spa Hotel Ruskovets in Dobrinishte is one of those places in Bulgaria where nature and comfort come together in the most natural way. Nestled at the foot of the Pirin Mountains, the complex offers not merely a holiday, but a complete experience that brings guests back time and time again.

Our interviewee is Rositsa Hadzhieva – Marketing Manager of Ruskovets Thermal SPA & Ski Resort, with over 20 years of experience in tourism and specialising in the development of hotel and wellness brands. Under her leadership, Ruskovets has established itself as a preferred spa destination with clear positioning and a strong market presence.

Why do guests choose Hotel Ruskovets over the other holiday options in the region?

Ruskovets offers something that is difficult to find elsewhere – the combination of an authentic natural setting with a truly high standard of service. We are located in the heart of the Pirin Mountains, at around 1,100 metres above sea level, with impressive views of Todorka Peak and direct contact with nature. It is important to note that we are a year-round destination – just 6 km from Bansko ski resort, equally appealing for a winter holiday with skiing and spa experiences, as well as for a summer mountain retreat filled with walks, fresh air and relaxation.

Our guests come not only for the spa complex or the restaurant – they come for the overall feeling. The feeling that time moves more slowly, that the air is cleaner, that you can truly disconnect from the worries of everyday life. A personalised approach lies at the heart of everything: from the moment when you book through to departure, our team strives to ensure that every guest feels special, recognised and genuinely cared for. It is precisely this combination of nature, mineral water, comfort and attentive service that is the reason so many of our guests return to visit us again and again.

What sets the mineral water you use in your spa services apart?

The mineral water is perhaps our greatest natural asset and lies at the heart of the entire experience at Ruskovets. The hotel has direct access to natural mineral water from the Dobrinishte spring – with a temperature of around 48°C that is exceptionally rich in fluoride, silica and bicarbonates. These minerals have proven therapeutic effects – they improve circulation, relieve muscular and joint complaints, support detoxification and contribute to the overall restoration of body and mind.

What distinguishes Ruskovets is the way we integrate this water throughout the entire spa concept – from mineral pools to hydrotherapy, mineral baths and specialised treatments. Guests feel the effects within the very first hours – better sleep, physical relaxation and a sense of lightness. Nature has done most of the work – we have simply created the environment in which its benefits can be experienced to the fullest.

Which treatments in your spa complex should we definitely try?

If I had to highlight three must-try experiences, I would begin with the Pirin Ritual – our signature treatment: a combination of hot stone massage, mountain herbs and a finishing mineral exfoliation. It lasts around 90 minutes and is absolutely transformative.

Second, the steam bath with mountain infusions. We use thyme, lavender and pine from the region – the aromas are intense and healing, and when followed by the mineral water experience, they create a feeling of complete purification.

And third, for those who prefer to ease into the rhythm more gradually, I recommend the outdoor jacuzzi barrels with mineral water. Immersing yourself in warm water under the open sky, with views of the Pirin Mountains, creates that rare moment of complete balance between body and mind – silence, warmth and nature in one. We offer more than 30 types of treatments, which is why we provide an individual consultation with our specialists for every guest.

How does Spa Hotel Ruskovets define comfort in accommodation?

Comfort here is not simply convenience – it is an experience, created through attention to detail, a sense of space and harmony with nature.

Our apartments and villas are designed to enhance the feeling of closeness to nature – materials such as wood and stone, a neutral colour palette and views directly towards the Pirin Mountains. We believe that true relaxation begins with space – which is why every room is over 80 sq m, offering ample space for two guests or for the whole family. The apartments feature separate bedrooms and spacious living areas, while the standalone villas are a true escape – secluded, with panoramic mountain views and a private fireplace for those winter evenings by the fire.

Our capacity is intentionally limited – we want every guest to receive full attention rather than be lost in a crowd. In today's world, it is precisely the silence and the sense of balance that become the true luxury our guests seek and find with us.

What is the concept behind Restaurant Lavender?

Restaurant Lavender is a space where flavour, atmosphere and attention to detail come together in one complete culinary experience. The concept is inspired by Mediterranean cuisine – with carefully selected ingredients, balanced flavours and seasonal offerings, complemented by a wine selection chosen with each dish in mind.

Our head chef brings extensive international experience and that unmistakable sense of precision and genuine respect for the ingredients, which is immediately evident on the plate. In addition to the à la carte menu, we offer a rich buffet selection for breakfast and dinner, as well as themed evenings that transport guests through different culinary traditions – from Bulgarian and Mediterranean cuisine to international flavours.

The interior is warm, with wooden elements, soft lighting and an open show kitchen, where guests can watch their food being prepared.

Lavender is also open to external guests and often becomes visitors' first introduction to Ruskovets – an experience that remains memorable and encourages them to return again.

Is it suitable to come with children?

Yes, Ruskovets is a family hotel both in spirit and in design – created with the idea of a truly fulfilling family holiday, where both children and parents can genuinely relax. We offer a children's mineral pool at an appropriate temperature, a playground and a Kids' Club with entertainment at weekends and during school holidays. For our youngest guests, we provide a variety of activities that connect them with nature – games, creative activities and time outdoors.

The accommodation is designed with family comfort in mind – spacious apartments and villas with separate rooms that provide a sense of freedom and personal space. We also have a dedicated family zone within the spa with designated hours, so that every guest – whether travelling with children or without – can find their own rhythm. Many of our guests return year after year and watch their children grow alongside the place – this is perhaps the greatest recognition for us.

If we are travelling without children, how can we be sure that we will enjoy a truly restful stay without unnecessary noise?

I completely understand that need – and we have given it special attention. At Ruskovets, silence is not simply the absence of noise, but an essential part of the overall experience. The adults-only spa area is a designated quiet zone – children are not permitted and the atmosphere of calm is carefully maintained. For couples, we offer specially curated packages that include romantic touches and personalised spa experiences, designed to encourage closeness and complete rejuvenation. The building itself is designed so that family rooms and apartments for couples are located in separate wings. The entire concept is built around providing balance – between activity and rest, between a family-friendly atmosphere and privacy. Thus, every guest discovers their own rhythm – whether they are seeking relaxation, romance or simply peace and quiet.

What opportunities for an active holiday does Spa Hotel Ruskovets offer?

Our location is ideal for active guests throughout all four seasons. Just 6 km from Bansko, the skiing, snowboarding and everything the winter resort has to offer are only minutes from the hotel. But the activity does not end when the snow melts. We offer Nordic walking and mountain biking routes directly from the hotel, with varying levels of difficulty. Our guides organise hiking excursions to Tevno Lake, Baikushev's Pine and a number of the Pirin Mountains' natural landmarks. There is also a gym with modern equipment and a rope park for those who enjoy more unconventional experiences. Our philosophy is simple: come for the spa, stay for everything else.

Ruskovets is a hotel where relaxation and activity find the perfect balance – and that is precisely what makes every stay memorable.
