Stefi Dineva is not only a psychologist and therapist who helps us to have a wholesome and happy life and to deal with everyday stress. Gifted with artistic nature, she herself is on the mission to find her better self by writing, painting, travelling and meditating. She then applies what she had learned in her work with her clients.

What is stress and what role does it play in our life? 

Stress is a strong mental tension that appears as the result of some threat and has a negative effect on the body, the emotions and the psyche. Today it is inevitable and is a reaction to the conditions of our lives. Stressful situations can be stimulating and motivate us to act and perform some task. Stress appears when a particular situation requires a quick or immediate reaction. This switches our bodies’ mechanisms for adaptability and we choose a strategy to deal with the situation.

Why should we not underestimate everyday stress?

Staying for too long in such conditions is detrimental for psychological and physical health. In such situations the person's behaviour changes. At a certain moment it could lead to different psychological and emotional conditions and disorders: trouble sleeping, weak and malfunctioning memory. The body's resistance disappears, triggering conditions such as hypertension, heart palpitation, hormonal disbalance, disrupted metabolism and others.

Everyday stress stops incapacitates some people from "switching off" during sleep and in moments, when there is no visible reason to be tense. The sufferer is constantly focused on misfortunes. Small things can provoke strong reactions. This weakens the ability for empathy and listening, and affects the relationships. 

How can you help us? 

Work with every client is individual and is a process. Each story is different. In my practice I discovered that the main focus is on emotions. Most of the time we work with beliefs, self-perception, thinking and training the skill of standing up for yourself. We pay attention to improving the everyday quality of life.

We, humans, are social beings. Our needs can be satisfied only through others. In my practice, I open a space for improving the existing relationships or stopping ones that do not bring value to the client's life.

What therapeutic techniques and methods do you use in your practice? 

My approach is integrative. I use my knowledge in different models and psychosomatics. Depending on the case, I use cognitive-behavioural therapy, systematic, psychosomatic and existential approach along with art therapy, breathing and meditation practices, visualisation, metaphoric cards.

Какво е стресът и каква е ролята му в живота ни?

Стресът е силно нервно напрежение, което възниква в следствие на заплаха и има отрицателно въздействие върху тялото, емоциите и психиката. В съвремието той е неизбежен и е реакция на условията и начина на живот. Стресовите ситуации могат да имат стимулиращ ефект и да ни мотивират да предприемем действия и да се справим с някаква задача. Стресът възниква, когато в определена ситуация се изисква бърза или незабавна реакция. Тогава в тялото се включват механизми на адаптация и човек избира стратегия за справяне.

Защо не трябва да подценяваме всекидневния стрес?

Продължителното пребиваване в подобно състояние вреди на психическото и физическо здраве. В такива условия поведението на човека се променя. В даден момент може да доведе до различни психо-емоционални състояния и разстройства. Появяват се безсъние, изтощение и нарушение на паметта. Съпротивителните сили на организма отслабват и следват оплаквания като високо кръвно налягане, сърцебиене, нарушен хормонален баланс и метаболизъм и други.

Заради ежедневно напрежение някои хора не могат да се „изключат“ от това състояние по време на сън и в моменти, в които няма видима причина да са напрегнати. Човек е постоянно фокусиран върху неприятностите. Дребните неща се превръщат в повод за силно раздразнение. Това отслабва способността за емпатия и слушане и води до влошаване на взаимоотношения.

Как можете да ни помогнете?

Работата с всеки клиент е индивидуална и това е процес. Всяка история е различна. От практиката съм установила, че основният акцент е върху емоциите. В голяма част от времето работим с убежденията, себевъзприятието, мисленето и изграждането на умение за себеотстояване. Отделяме внимание на повишаването на качеството на живот в ежедневието.

Ние сме социални същества. Нашите потребности могат да бъдат удовлетворени единствено чрез другите. Отваряме пространство за подобряването на взаимоотношенията или прекратяването на онези, които клиентът осъзнава, че не му носят стойност в живота.

Какви терапевтични техники и методи използвате в практиката си?

Моят подход е интегративен. Използвам знанията си от различни модалности и психосоматиката. В зависимост от случая включвам когнитивно-поведенческа терапия, системен, психотелесен и екзистенциален подход; арт терапевтични, дихателни, медитативни практики и визуализации, метафорични карти.
