GALLERY 360⁰ HOUSE BY LAGO DESIGN STUDIO

Space and light and order. Those are the things that men need just as much as they need bread or a place to sleep.

Tailor made is a work process that to a significant degree is valid for designing living spaces as well. All we have to do is to see them as a piece of clothing that has to be made for a particular person with the aim not only to look beautiful in its own right, but also to hide the wearer's imperfections and to create, at the end of the process, a harmonical functional shape that is highly personalised, and fits all the technical, constructive, emotional and aesthetic restrictions.

We, at Lago Design Studio, use this approach because this is the only way to unleash the full potential of a space and to outline the border between possible and impossible. For us, in this particular project, air and light are the materials with the largest potential, or to paraphrase Le Corbusier – air, light and function is what the home needs. In order to preserve this feeling in every spot of the space we created compositions that are both functional and aesthetically stimulating in all directions, meaning a 360⁰-vision.

Air

The hardest task for any artist is to become aware of the fact that air is a material and that work with it actually determines the true effect on the individual who was put in an environment defined by personalised and functional volumes. Air is a material and working with it in the different functional zones within a shared space is very complicated.

In this interior project, we organised the functional areas in the house's day zone through tailored compositions that form the home's "heart" and subdue the many constructive elements to create an independent aesthetic environment free of compact obstacles. The rounded central element was designed as a sculpture that brings character to the entire space. These shelves not only make sense functionally and esthetically, they can be adapted to fit different "scenes," meaning that they can be easily moved into different configurations. Compositions of furniture were used to skillfully turn the constructive elements into panels for exhibition of paintings, while at the same time forming a fireplace corner and visually separating the different areas. The panoramic freestanding fireplace in the centre of the shared space, as well as the bespoke furniture compositions that lack backs and are beautiful from all sides, create the feeling of continuous 360⁰ panoramic vista.

From the moment of entering this space, the visitor has a global vision of the house's entire volume and a feeling of an open interior. Full of light, the space is defined by sculptured furniture and compositions; it has the general ambiance of an art gallery.

Light

By using all opportunities for having more light – both natural and artificial, led to the decision to use as large windows as possible and light bodies with high intensity without direct light beams to provide ample comfort at any time.

The transparency of the windows not only brings light into the interior, it also changes the perception of the space, making it appear much larger with the illusion that the entire green "fitted carpet" of grass in the yard is a part of the living room as an ever-changing, temporary art installation.
