With a fine sense of detail and a clear feeling for balance, Engineer Rumyana Ilkova designs functional interiors that combine classical aesthetics with modern trends and each client’s individual touch. In her work, she believes that design is not just a profession but a mission – one she follows both through her projects and through her dedication to preparing the next generation of interior designers in Bulgaria. We spoke with her to learn more.

How did you realise that interior design was your passion?

Nearly 100 outstanding projects were judged by an international jury of leading local and foreign experts in the field. The event attracted business representatives, investors, clients and key partners of the Dibla platform, cementing its status as one of the most important events in the industry.

What are the core challenges an interior designer has to deal with when designing a very small flat?

Interior design's role in our everyday life is increasing, as it affects not only the space's aesthetics, but also the quality of life in it. Each year brings in new ideas, innovations and ways to combine traditions and modernity. This is especially true for 2025, when we are going to meet new technologies and fresh solutions, along with respect for the past that makes us feel cosy and safe.

Sustainability and technological integration are the leading trends of 2025.

Restaurants, hotels, offices, conference rooms – public spaces need furniture one cannot find in ordinary showrooms. Contract furniture has its own specifics, ANMARG knows all about them. You say that Roomstudio offers design without an expiration date. How do you manage to achieve a design that remains immune to the changes of time and trends?

In the world we live in, details are the heart of interior design - they bring to it individuality and completeness. The door handles, locks, hangers and stoppers are all crucial for the interior's identity. They are not just functional elements - they can complement the cohesiveness of the details or can become a bright accent that contrasts with the room's overall design.
