What is the story of e-Lek? How did you start?

We started our brand in 2012 with a focus on herbs and their healing properties. The name eLek derives from the short message “This is a cure” (in Bulgarian “lek” means “cure”) because each of our products is literally and figuratively a cure for the skin. Later on, a great dose of curiosity and numerous training courses enriched our catalogue with diverse, modern, and beneficial cosmetic products. Today we can take care of your skin with perfect emulsions and wonderful nourishing formulas.

What do you think is the reason for the growing popularity of organic ingredients cosmetics?

Recognising the importance of a healthy lifestyle, people have started to pay more attention to their food in terms of ingredients and origin. Cosmetics is food for the skin, that’s why organic ingredients are so vital. Of course, they should be mixed in well-formulated cosmetic products so they have an impressive effect. Many of the natural oils have a composition close to human fat, which makes them more compatible with the skin and hair compared to conventional beauty products. What else should quality cosmetic products consist of?

What are the most important rules for proper skincare?

The synergy rule is the most important – properly selected bioactive ingredients in a precise and appropriate combination. Quality cosmetics should not consist only of oils. Natural oils are certainly extremely beneficial, but they can’t reveal their strong properties if they are used separately, isolated from the whole. A cosmetic product without a water phase is very likely to form a heavy, non-absorbent layer on the skin, clog pores and form comedonal outbreaks. Antioxidants would not be beneficial if they stay on the surface of the epidermis and don’t penetrate the skin in depth. How do we choose the proper natural cosmetics?

There is a famous rule, according to which the effect of herbs and natural resources is best to the people who were born or are living in the same region. Due to the geographical position of our country and its diverse climate and soils, Bulgarian herbs contain a high percentage of biologically active substances. The closer the location of the producer, the fresher the cosmetic products are, and the lesser time they have been in storage and buffer premises.

The basic substances should come from naturally grown plants, some of them support the life cycle of soils and do not pollute the environment. In the production of authentic natural cosmetics only oil infusions are used – no extractions, no synthetic preservatives, no parabens, no phthalates, and no other chemically obtained substances.
