A dizzying whirl of dancing bodies. Bright colours intertwined in impressive costumes. Clear voices praising the joys and sorrows of life. Captivating rituals... When we watch Bulgarian folk songs, dances and customs in the author's interpretation of a professional folklore ensemble, time stands still and we are transported into a magical world. In it, the authentic music and dances of our ancestors are transformed into contemporary art - enchanting, beautiful, without equal in the world.

Strandzha Ensemble

Between 20 and 29 March you have the rare opportunity to see Bulgaria's captivating dances, songs and folk customs in original arrangement and interpretation, performed by this country's 14 professional folklore ensembles, the four higher education institutions where Bulgarian dance and vocal folklore is taught, and the Folk Music Orchestra of Bulgarian National Radio.

Mizia Ensemble

The established festival takes place every four years. This is its first Burgas edition. The hosts plan to turn the event not only into a celebration of beauty and music but also into an opportunity for conversations and discussions on current topics that concern the community of professional performers and authors of folk music and dance art.

Tundzha Ensemble

Each evening, the professional performers of two ensembles will take to the stage of the State Opera – Burgas. The hosts from Professional Folklore Ensemble Strandzha – Burgas, who open the event, have prepared a special programme. Part of it is dedicated to interpretations of folklore from small ethnographic groups, such as Bulgarian communities that for centuries lived in territories which are now in other countries, such as Asia Minor and Northern Dobrudzha.
