DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING IN UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL LOZENETZ: TRADITIONS AND INNOVATIONS
Assistant professor Dr Georgi Hadjidekov, DM, has specialised diagnostic imaging in Bulgaria and France, and is assistant professor in the Physics, Biophysics and Rentgenology Department of the Medical Faculty at Sofia University
Since the start of his professional career, in 2013, he has worked in the Diagnostic Imaging Department at Lozenetz University Hospital in Sofia. He is fluent in all conventional and specialised methods in diagnostic imaging.
What is specific for the Diagnostic Imaging Department in Lozenetz Hospital?
The equipment we use covers all radiologic facilities including Doppler ultrasound, digital radiography, 128 detectors computed tomography, 3 Tesla magnetic resonance equipment, a number of workstations for analysis and processing digital images.
Our staff includes young residents and physicians who, parallel to clinical workflow, follow their continuing professional growth.
The department is located in large, spacious halls. This is a friendly environment for patients and a pleasant working place for the staff.
What types of radiological studies the department offers?
We cover all radiological needs of referring clinicians and clinical departments of the hospital, as well to out-patients. We are able to assure high quality imaging of cardiovascular, neurological, gastrointestinal, pulmonary, urological diseases, a pediatrics one as well. The possibility of teleradiology offers further improvement of radiology care, promoting social justice.
What are your personal professional goals as associate professor at the department?
In my clinical and research work I focus on female genital imaging and especially in magnetic resonance fetal imaging. The early diagnosis of fetal abnormalities is performed by detailed, sectional images, without ionizing radiation – an up-to-date trend in imaging. We already refer not only for the hospital Department of Obstrectics, but also for other medical institutions and out-patient care.
As our department is a training ground as well, I am working to establish high quality teaching of radiology for Bulgarian and international students. Good training for residents, guidance and mentorship of their research, and promoting their results on national and international events is one of my main tasks.
