When attorney at law Hristofor Manchev and attorney at law Zdravko Ivanov established their law firm in 2018, they decided whose surname would appear first in its name in one of the oldest and most impartial ways, also known to the law: by drawing lots. From that moment on, however, nothing has been left to chance when it comes to serving their clients.

What inspired you to establish Manchev & Ivanov Law Firm?

What should we know when buying or paying a deposit on a property?

When buying through an estate agent, you are often asked to pay a "reservation deposit" so that the listing can be "taken off" the market. When the property is attractive and there are other potential buyers, you may agree to this impulsively. However, it often turns out that the property has encumbrances – an unreleased mortgage, a seizure by a court or public enforcement officer, multiple owners, or another issue. Such encumbrances may prevent you from acquiring the property.

Are women in Bulgaria who are victims of violence becoming more aware of their rights?

Legal awareness regarding domestic violence is gradually increasing, but there is still a significant gap between formally knowing your rights and being genuinely prepared to exercise them in time. I often meet women who recognise the abuse only when it has already led to severe psychological, emotional or financial dependence.

How did a young lawyer with no family background in the profession manage to build a successful legal practice in just four years?

From her very first steps as a qualified lawyer and mediator with a focus on civil law, lawyer Darina Emilova made a strong statement both as a person and as a professional. She opened her own law office and devoted an important part of her time to social causes.

Why and how did you choose to start your career with an independent practice instead of being part of a larger law firm?
