PROFESSOR MIGLENA TEMELKOVA, PHD, IS THE NEW CHAIRPERSON OF THE COUNCIL OF RECTORS

The rector of the University of Telecommunications and Post Professor Miglena Temelkova, PhD, is the new Chairperson of the Council of Rectors of the Universities in Bulgaria. She won the election’s second round with 27 votes, outperforming the other candidate, Professor Dimitar Dimitrov, Rector of the University of National and World Economy, who won 19 votes. 

Impressively, the last time when a woman chaired the organisation was 25 years ago - Professor Yordanka Kuzmanova, the then rector of the Agrarian University in Plovdiv.

In her programme for the future development of the Council of Rectors Professor Temelkova focused on working to establish its prestige as a unique and respected public institution with an active stance in shaping the state policies in regard to higher education and science.

For members of the Management Board were elected Professor Georgi Valchev, Rector of the Sofia University, Professor Evgeni Stanimirov, Rector of University of Economy - Varna, Professor Dobri Yarkov, Rector of Trakia University - Stara Zagora, Professor Dimitar Dimitrov, Rector of Veliko Tarnovo University, Professor Dobromir Dimitrov, Rector of Medical University - Pleven and Professor Sava Dimitrov, Rector of the National Academy of Music.
