WHERE IN BULGARIA ARE YOU?
This one is tough, but we'll give you some good clues.
In the picture you see some of Vagabond's staff relaxing in an open-air hot mineral water pool after a long day of exploring the hidden treasures of southwestern Bulgaria. The pool is located in the Mesta Valley, in an increasingly famous spa resort near Gotse Delchev.
Before this well-deserved health treatment all the Vagabonds had been on the western slopes of the Rhodope mountains, in a picture-postcard village reputedly one of the first to start the big boom of rural tourism in Bulgaria. That village has no more than 20 permanent residents who are sometimes far outnumbered by the tourists staying in the cleverly renovated Revival Period houses. The only restaurant, which is adjacent to the church, has become iconic amongst gourmets in Bulgaria: many are prepared to travel from far and wide to try the meatballs, the tomatoes and homemade rakiya.
