Fashion is fleeting, the choice of clothes is huge, and yet, we often struggle to find our unique personal style. Thanks to her knowledge in psychology and style, Desislava Dimitrova has already helped many women to look and feel great in their clothes.

What defines one's personal style: one's body type, personality, mood, careful planning or something else?

While I studied Style Psychology, my goal was to help each woman to create the right relationship with herself and to express it with her clothes.

Our style depends on many factors, but mostly on our ability to see what is beautiful, our eagerness to develop our taste and to know our bodies, goals, desires and life mission.

One's psychotype is crucial for this as it expresses our personality through style's elements: colours, cut, prints, make up, volumes, shapes, fabrics etc. People often have one leading and a couple of additional phychotypes; if they do not respect them all they will never wear clothes in which they really like themselves.

My clients have shared that they shop emotionally rather than rationally. When we approach shopping without a plan, we often buy clothes that we never wear or cannot combine them with anything in our wardrobe.

Being stylish is not defined by one's body type, weight or age, but by the connection between body and soul and our acceptance of who we are.

It gets easier when we realise that all clothes are a sum of horizontal and vertical lines, details, volumes and scopes that can create a beautiful and stylish image.

The mood is not that important, but it can mislead us to buy something unsuitable. Emotional shopping rarely provides good results, this is why planning your wardrobe is crucial. It is in the foundation of having a beautiful, but functional wardrobe.

What is the most common mistake we make when we get dressed?

It is individual. The most important thing is to differentiate between what we like and what suits us. Common mistakes are to disregard our psychotype, the influence of our close ones, copying other women's styles or to obeying limitations imposed by us or other people. This happens when we lack our own style and a wardrobe that reflects our needs and desires. Some women buy impressive clothes that do not match anything else in their wardrobe, because it lacks a "base," the "glue" between the different elements. Others are tired of wearing the same type of clothes, because they are afraid to try something different and lack an accent in their combinations. People also often sacrifice comfort for beauty.

What is the most important thing you teach your clients?

To restore the connection between their soul and body. I teach them how to dress to love themselves. I teach them to focus on what is beautiful in their bodies and the skill to hide the imperfections. What I teach them is not magic. It is knowledge. I teach and inspire them to dress in a way that makes them feel beautiful, confident and happy every day of their life.

Style by Dessi:
