Dr Cvetan Gergov, founder, has hundreds of patients who trust him for the reliable results and the friendly atmosphere
Dr Cvetan Gergov is one of the young dentists in Bulgaria who are the profession's bright future. At 37 years old, he is an experienced endodontist and a skilful implantologist, and has opened his own dental clinic, G Dent. His loyal patients now count by the hundreds, convinced by experience in his professionalism in root canal treatment of both acute and chronic inflammation (pulpitis and periodontitis), curved root canals and badly filled and treated root canals. Thanks to his years of practice of working under microscope, Dr Gergov is especially good in extracting dental tools stuck in canals and has become a vital part in large recovery procedures of the whole jaw. Few people are aware that proper endodontic treatment is a must in procedures of tooth restoration.
Dr Gergov added to his portfolio aesthetic recovery in 2018. He is also excellent when treating more common conditions, such as tooth cavity, tooth extraction, tartar cleaning etc.
The opening of his own dental clinic, close to Paradise Centre Mall, was a logical step for Dr Gergov. G Dent has two dental offices equipped with highly specialised technologies, cosy atmosphere and a parking place for patients. The clinic offers full dental treatment with Dr Gergov personally preparing all treatment plans. He is also careful to maintain a close contact with his patients so that they remain calm and assured throughout the complete treatment.
Dr Gergov is also fluent in English.
When and how did you decide to open your own dental practice?
I have always dreamt of my own practice. First, I decided that it will be best to start working in an established clinic in order to gain invaluable experience and to prove my skill and knowledge. While working there, I realised something – how difficult it is to manage your own clinic and how significant financial resources you need to do this.
So, I started working consistently towards fulfilling my dream. It took me almost eight years. In 2019 I chose the place, and started waiting for the actual building to be constructed.
What qualities should an endodontist possess in order to be a good professional?
Immense patience, in-depth knowledge and impeccable precision when working with their hands. Of course, in order to be good and successful, you also need the latest generation top technology. All of these should be combined with endless self-improvement and exchange of experience with other colleagues during different courses and trainings.
What is the most challenging endodontic case that you have solved?
Honestly, each case is a challenge. However, removing a broken tool stuck in a root canal is definitely something complicated and interesting.
The case that I am going to share now was fun, but also taught me a lot. I was working on a normal sixth tooth with three root canals and I was thinking that everything will go easily and quickly. I was already finishing when I told myself: let's do the tooth so well that it would deserve to be photographed and shared on Facebook, a case I would be glad to show my colleagues and patients as an example of how good I am at doing this. Suddenly, I fractured a rotational tool in one of the root canals. The work was now far from over – the patient needed two more visits to fix the situation. I managed to free the tool and to push it up in the canal. I washed the canal and then... I found that the tool had moved to another canal. This happened, because I had not sealed the other canals before the procedure.
This is what I learned from this case: I should never underestimate any case; I should control my desire to show off to others and, most importantly, I should always seal the canals beforehand.
And this is how this case was closed: I easily removed the tool. The procedure was a success. To this day the patient makes fun of me and asks: Did you seal the canal? All is well when it ends well.
Besides being an experienced endodontist, you also do implants. How do these two professional skills combine to provide more quality treatment to the patient?
Let me put it this way: what we cannot heal or we mess up, we can extract the tooth and replace it with an implant. Of course, we are not gods. The ability to offer an alternative to the patient so that they have teeth is good. I believe that being a good endodontist is not incompatible with being a good implantologist. On the contrary, the two sets of skills complement each other. The current development of implantology technologies, namely the so-called navigation implantology, is one of the technological achievements that provide immense advantages and makes work easy.
Now, when you have your own clinic and scores of satisfied patients, what is the secret of having a sustainable dental practice?
To love your profession, to be dedicated and, first and foremost, to solve the cases not only with your knowledge and brain, but also with your heart. I believe that an excellent team that is united, hard-working and friendly can always withstand any problems and prevail over everyday challenges.
How do you see G Dent 10 years from now?
I imagine that we will have a great team of professionals who are happy and work with a smile on their face not because they have to, but because they feel like that. Of course, I also want to make happy and smiling many patients who, by seeking help at G Dent, will know that they will find here help and friendly attitude.
