ANGLO-AMERICAN SCHOOL OF SOFIA: THE INTERNATIONAL CHOICE

The Anglo-American School of Sofia is a premiere international school in Sofia, established in 1967 and serving the educational needs of the diplomatic community and international business

Currently the school has almost 600 students, aged 4 to 19, from over 50 countries and offers a multi-sourced curriculum, based on American, British, and international educational best practices.

The mission of the Anglo-American School is to engage, support and prepare each student for today and tomorrow. AAS is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and is an authorized International Baccalaureate Organization (IB) World School.

Each year, AAS offers full academic scholarships to talented Bulgarian students in grades 7 and 8.

The Anglo-American School of Sofia offers first class education within an international, inclusive community. With a focus on academic rigor, extracurricular development, and personal growth, ААС aims to prepare students for success both for their future studies and as responsible, engaged citizens of the world.

The schools of the future will cater to diverse student needs

AI will make education more accessible and individualized for each student

The Anglo-American School of Sofia has been around for 50 years already and in this time it deservedly became a trusted and coveted institution that serves not only Bulgaria's vibrant expat community but also local families aware of the importance of top class international education for their children's bright future.

Joseph Gorski, Director of Student Support Services at the AAS

The AAS follows the philosophy of child-centred education to provide kids aged 4-18 the best educational practices, quality curriculum and outstanding all-round education. Regardless of their age, culture and origin, all children at the AAS are supported by the faculty and staff to grow into happy, confident and successful individuals. Joseph Gorski, Director of Student Support Services at the AAS, shares more.

Introduce yourself professionally in 50 words.

I've been an educator for over 20 years in five different countries, and taught at an elementary, middle, and high school, as well as university. I'm a certified teacher and licensed counselor, and I believe creating inclusive schools to be my calling.

Why is inclusion in education important?

Inclusion is simply accepting your fellow human beings for who they are, and making sure they feel loved, welcomed, and part of the community. If we don't foster inclusion in our schools, we aren't fostering compassion in our children. Inclusion makes the world a better place.

What can a school do to be more inclusive?

The most basic principle of inclusion is meeting people where they are at; not attempting to force them to fit a preconceived mold. To meet this end, schools should offer multiple pathways for students, both academically and otherwise. Recognizing the need and providing opportunities for unique individuals is the most important thing a school can do.

How do you see the future of education?

Education will change radically with the introduction of AI, and become more accessible to all students. There's only so much a single teacher can do within the hours of the day; having an AI assistant to help craft an individualized project for each student, instead of just one or two options, will expand opportunities for everyone. I don't think schools of the future will be anything like the schools of our past.
