When Hitachi Solutions, a global consultancy company for implementation of Microsoft-based business applications, opened an IT centre in Sofia in September 2019, no-one was aware that a pandemic was coming. But under the skilful management of Adriana Tsankova, manager of Hitachi Solutions for Bulgaria, the local team grew rapidly and became a byword for quality work. Adriana Tsankova has 11 years of professional experience abroad; almost 7 of those are in Hitachi. Today she is still interested in working in the company and still believes in its mission and values.

How did the idea to open a branch of Hitachi Solutions in Bulgaria appear?

One day, when I was in our London office, I jokingly proposed to open a branch in Bulgaria. Our CEO for Europe heard me and asked me for 3 reasons to do this. I told him that Bulgaria has talents experienced in Microsoft and many people are fluent in a number of languages, and that investment in the country is affordable. This is how it started.

Until then, in Bulgaria Hitachi was known for its other businesses. For me it was an exciting challenge to establish its brand in the IT field as well.

What is your recapitulation two and a half years later?

We arrived in Bulgaria with clear plans. The pandemic forced us to change them in a positive direction. As a part of a big organisation, we had the support and stability we needed to realise our ideas and to outperform them. It was also crucial that since the very beginning we had in our teams experienced people eager to grow and to achieve their goals. The pandemic also helped talents realise that they would rather work for a serious employer with an established name and reputation. This attracted them to Hitachi Solutions. Today I am proud of my team. The people in it are not only excellent professionals in a number of fields. They are also great individuals.

What is your mission as a manager of Hitachi Solutions in Bulgaria?

I am a person with so many goals that I cannot list all of them. I want us to become a big IT company with a wide representation and brand recognition on the market. To be the biggest in Southeastern Europe for Microsoft-based solutions. To grow with the help of talented, motivated people who enjoy their job. To have united teams.

How do you develop and expand your team's potential?

For me it is important that our team is full of individualists eager to push their careers further. Our mentorship programme helps us to achieve this. We, at Hitachi Solutions, do not have a clear hierarchical structure. Instead of bosses and managers we have teams of people with similar skills who develop professional and personal relations and help one another.

We also invest a lot in training programmes, including for young people without previous experience. What matters for us is our talents to be motivated. We are extremely open to such people as Hitachi values quality and quality comes from talents.

Openness is one of our most important strategies. So far, we have benefited from it. I hope that more international companies will recognise Bulgaria's potential and will follow the example of Hitachi Solutions.
