basf history of invention

BASF creates innovation for successful and sustainable agriculture

BASF is the largest chemical company in the world* and the absolute leader on the Cereal's market** in Bulgaria. BASF has been innovating for decades to solve agriculture’s most pressing challenges. The company has a strong track record in successfully developing major innovations in important fungicide classes and is continuously researching new active ingredients to meet future needs of farmers.

BASF invests continuously in innovative crop protection solutions to safeguard yield, while meeting increasingly stringent environmental and safety requirements, to prove that new products can be safe to people, animals and the environment. For over 100 years, BASF has been committed to supporting farmers with new technologies, so that they can achieve high yields sustainably, even on limited acreage, and satisfy consumer demands.

What is the latest innovation from BASF?

With an innovative approach the scientists at BASF developed Revysol®, a new benchmark fungicide with fast and long-lasting activity. It was specifically designed to meet future needs of farmers in a broad range of crops. Revysol® is an innovative fungicidal active ingredient for crop protection from the triazole group. Unlike conventional azoles on the market, Revysol® is the first Isopropanol-Azole, a unique chemistry discovered and developed by BASF combining an outstanding performance with a favorable regulatory profile and selectivity.

Why is Revysol® so unique?

Regulatory challenges are also the reason why no new active substances from Triazole group have been introduced in decades (more than 15 years). In order to meet the strict regulatory requirements, BASF has developed an innovative screening of active substances.

In the discovery phase of Revysol®, the BASF scientists used new indicator studies to increase the chances of meeting both the highest regulatory standards and outstanding biological performance. New products have to pass the toughest tests to gain approval, particularly in Europe. For Revysol® BASF conducted more than 290 studies comprehensively examining safety for humans and the environment. Given these strict requirements and the increasing cost of development in the European Union, there are now fewer active ingredients authorized for use, and few new active ingredients being submitted for approval.

Registering and launching of Revysol® in the EU is an outstanding success for BASF and for farmers.
