The european heritage collection has revived the Savonnerie style in an amazing way
The Savonnerie manufactory was the most prestigious European manufactory of knotted-pile carpets. Made of wool, they were knotted with the Ghiordes knot, at about ninety knots per square inch. The manufactory was established at Quai de Chaillot in 1615 by Pierre DuPont, who was inspired by his travels in the Levant. Until 1768, the Savonniere carpets remained exclusively the property of the French Crown and were considered one of the grandest French diplomatic gifts. Later, the name of the Savonnerie was applied to knotted-pile carpets made elsewhere.
Today, HEMUS LTD is on a quest to give Europe back its amazing Savonnerie carpets, reviving their French exquisiteness in Bulgaria, a land with century-old tradition in carpet weaving. The colours are stunning, the making is precise and every square inch is the embodiment of the ideas of the artisans born centuries ago.
