What have the MU-Plovdiv achieved in its 70 years of history?

The University is the home of 168 professors and associate professors and 540 assistant professors and lecturers with solid professional knowledge, significant scientific achievements and rich teaching talents, who are respected members of international medical organisations. The emblems of Plovdiv medicine are the surgeons Yuriy Toshev, Yanko Dobrev, Lazar Haydudov, the internists Anton Mitov and Petar Mironov, the paediatricians Ivan Andreev and Ivan Vaptsarov, the microbiologist Elisey Yanev. And, of course, the renowned Bogoya Yurukov, founder and head of seven departments!

The most recent awards and recognitions for the University include the Award for Best Regional University for 2013 by the European Business Assembly and the Club of the Rectors in Europe, and the Award for Best University Library for 2014 by Oxford. The Rector, Professor Stefan Kostianev was accepted as a member of the Club of Rectors in Europe and awarded with a medal Manager of the Year for 2013. International awards for best students for 2012 by Forum der Medizin and for young scientists in applied physics, by IUPAP, were given to students and staff from MU-Plovdiv.

What are the strong sides of MU-Plovdiv?

The Medical University consists of four schools (Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy and Public Health), Medical College and Department of Language and Specialised Training. The clinical training is achieved at the "St George" and "Kaspela" university hospitals. Over 5,600 Bulgarian and foreign students study at the University. Contemporary equipment for diagnostics, research and education is used, electronic and distant learning is provided. The campus has modern dormitories with internet access and canteens with healthy menu.

The University library spreads on 1,600 sq.m and has about 190,000 volumes, printed and electronic. In 24 hours, it can deliver complete texts from the Utah University.

How does the University control the quality of education?

Our students are encouraged to participate in the University administrative structure, and the system for monitoring of student's satisfaction has been optimised. We apply strict academic standards in management of education quality, and the staff has been audited. Special attention is paid to the centre for work with foreign students. MU-Plovdiv has its own internal quality control system, which ensures training in conformity with the national and European standards. The University is the first in Bulgaria with an ISO certificate in medical education. It is the first Bulgarian medical university with ranking in U-Multirank, which is a multi-dimensional, user-driven approach to international ranking of higher education institutions. MU-Plovdiv is a member of 17 prestigious international research and educational organisations.
