Olga Lavrenova, Managing Director of ZAGORKA AD, tells us more about this
What goals have you set as a Managing Director of ZAGORKA AD?
ZAGORKA is a company with a 120-year history. As part of ZAGORKA, my role is to strengthen the feeling of being proud of working for the organization, to intensify the emotion of belonging to a great company, to the culture of one of the most amazing companies in Bulgaria. At ZAGORKA, part of the Heineken Company, we care about the well-being and engagement of our employees, we strive to have a good team spirit, which brings about fruitful collaborations and supports employee development opportunities.
Of course, ZAGORKA is a great beer producer, and we brew the brands that Bulgarians love. We aim at offering the highest quality products and services. We are a serious and responsible business partner. We care what we do, we look toward the future and so whatever we initiate is created with consideration toward the planet, toward the country where we do our business. We constantly take actions to reduce our carbon footprint and use green energy, thus focusing on an efficient and sustainable route to the consumer. As a company, we fully support initiatives in our industry, which support the Plastic Pact for the reduction of plastic pollution, and initiatives that relate to waste management. We are also committed to our EverGreen Strategy, which aims to drive growth through sustainability and responsibility throughout the whole value chain.
What sustainability policies does ZAGORKA, part of the HEINEKEN Company, implement in Bulgaria?
HEINEKEN's long-term platform for sustainable development "Brew a Better World" focuses on the topics of environment, social sustainability, and responsible consumption. For more than seven years now, we have been implementing this platform successfully in Bulgaria, and we are one of the greenest companies in the country. ZAGORKA is the first brewery in Bulgaria to install its own solar park with 2,028 photovoltaic panels, and in just a few months we reported a reduction in emissions amounting to 17 tons. Furthermore, we optimize the use of plastic in our packaging, we use 50% recycled plastic in our shrink-wrap, we use recycled label paper, and we also recycle 100% of the production waste in order to have zero waste in landfills. All our efforts are directed toward having a zero-carbon footprint in production and a circular economy business.
We also focus on responsible consumption. We have a wide portfolio of product offerings with 0.0% alcohol, which are suitable for consumption at any time and are appropriate for every occasion. With the Ariana beer initiative #Zelenodeistvie, we cleaned the Iskar dam and the Gorni Dabnik dam. We collected over 1 ton of waste and "stocked" the dams with over 2 tons of fish. Our goal was to support sustainable fishing practices, water conservation, and biodiversity. This is done in order for us to Brew the Joy of True Togetherness to Inspire a Better World.
What novelties are we to expect from you for summer 2022?
We have launched two premium innovations with consumer-friendly packaging, which were available before the beginning of summer in all market channels.
These new amazing product offerings are Heineken® Silver, which was launched uniquely – in Heineken's virtual brewery in the digital platform Decentraland. Heineken® Silver is an extra refreshing lager with a less bitter taste and a subtle finish, specially created for the modern taste preferences of consumers and with lower alcohol content. It is very suitable for the summer days.
The other addition to ZAGORKA's portfolio is the Italian favorite Birra Moretti. It has an authentic taste, which allows the fans of classical beer to enjoy a traditional Italian recipe, with the dense and rich taste of lager beer.
For the low-alcohol beer lovers, we offer a variety of flavors of Ariana Radler 0.0%, as well as the low-alcohol Ariana Radler Lemon 1.8%. All are extremely refreshing and also suitable for the hot summer days.
