A picture is worth more than a thousand words, the old adage goes, and even in Bulgaria sometimes things are exactly what they seem to be, which explains why there is no explanation about the people pictured here.

Suffice it to say that this is Bulgaria's (now former) top political establishment. If you have any free time, you might want to try to identify who is who in this collection of inimitable faces, sentiments and attitudes photographed by one of this country's foremost photographers, Nadezhda Chipeva.

The event for which the men pictured here gathered was the announcement that Bulgaria had "a well-founded reason" to conclude that Hizballah was behind the July 2012 terrorist attack in Burgas which killed a Bulgarian and five Israeli tourists.

Later it turned out that former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov had personally endorsed the announcement even though the prosecution, which normally decides when to reveal official information about ongoing investigations, had not given the green light for any such press conference.

And a "press" conference is perhaps not a very appropriate term as no journalist was actually allowed to pose questions at the event.
