When you look for one-of-a-kind place to stay in Veliko Tarnovo, Bey House is the answer
Visiting Veliko Tarnovo is a must for everyone in Bulgaria. This nation's royal capital never ceases to amaze with its scenic urbanscape, glorious medieval past and the rich fabric of 19th century traditional architecture, 20th century urban elegance and 21st century modern vibe.
For the ultimate Veliko Tarnovo experience, staying at the amazing Bey House is another must.
Located in the residence of the last Ottoman bey, or governor, of Tarnovo, Bey House combines intimate luxury, preserved tradition, and an atmosphere to match. Nestled in the heart of the traditional neighbourhood, it is right in the centre of the town's historical and cultural heritage, and its restaurants, bars, and vistas.

Yet, the Bey House is a quiet haven of peace and tranquillity. The four royal chambers are lavishly furnished and are named after Bulgarian tsarinas, or queens, from the 1878-1944 period – Johanna Maria Louise Loisinger, Maria Luisa of Bourbon-Parma, Giovanna of Italy and Margarita Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, spouses respectively of Prince Alexander Battenberg and tsars, or kings, Ferdinand I, Boris III, and Simeon II.

Each detail in the interior has been carefully crafted to speak of luxury and elegance, of times bygone and modern amenities. The guests also enjoy fine dining at the excellent restaurant and the pleasures of an underground spa with a Turkish bath. A quiet, secluded garden with a murmuring Oriental water fountain is the perfect place to indulge in a cup of excellent coffee or a late-afternoon drink before heading out to explore the beauties of Veliko Tarnovo.
Bey House is also a part of the rich heritage of Bulgaria's old capital.
The mansion was built in 1864 by a student of Bulgaria's famed master builder Kolyu Ficheto for Konchashooglu Bey. Later, it was purchased by a wealthy Bulgarian family, the Parashkevovs, but with time and the change of history, it slowly went into disrepair.
Only the building's ground-level walls, made of sturdy stone boulders, were in a good condition when renovation started, in 1978-1980. The reconstruction was a part of a large-scale programme for the restoration of Veliko Tarnovo's old quarter. The old house was completely rebuilt after original plans, its beauty restored for the next generations to enjoy, cherish, and preserve. Yet, it had to wait until the late 2010s, when it got a new owner who recognised its potential as a place for luxury tourism.
As a luxurious retreat in the centre of Veliko Tarnovo, the Bey House now successfully completes the mission to provide to the demanding guest of the royal city the perfect opportunity to immerse in the spirit of the past, to experience first-handily local architecture and lifestyle, and to indulge in modern luxury.
